Honestly, I love Stone... I think he's one of the top 5 wingers in the NHL.

But, Ottawa (Dorion and Eugene) have put themselves in a bit of a mess. Looking at the roster I can't see how doing things status quo can build a championship roster in the foreseeable future. Heck, even if the Sens make the playoffs how are they going to get past Tampa/Toronto or Buffalo? The smart move is to look long term and that's 3-5 years from now.

I'd look to completely gut the roster and that starts with Mark Stone.

To Colorado:
- Mark Stone, PIT 3rd 2019

To Ottawa:
- OTT 1st 2019,
- COL 1st 2019 if Colorado wins Stanley Cup in 2019.
- COL 1st by 2022 if Colorado re-signs Mark Stone.

Then look at trading for bad contracts but also acquiring 1sts and high prospects.

i.e.

ex1: To Ottawa: EDM 1st + Jesse P + Lucic to Edmonton: Dzingle and SJS 2nd
ex2: To Ottawa: Cody Glass + VGN 1st 2020 + VGN 2nd 2019 + David Clarkson To Vegas: Duchene

Agreed that the team needs to do everything reasonable to re-sign Mark Stone. Not only is he by far the best player but he also has all the positive professional attributes that you would like the younger players to learn. I'm not sure how effective Stone will be 6 or 7 years out but the team needs to pay up to keep this guy.

Wow!!! Those are some imaginative trades. Lets not forget JT Miller and McDonough combined for a 1st, or Brassard with 50% retained for an additional year for a 1st..... Stone is a great winger, that's WAY too much. I get that 2 of those 1sts are conditional on the future, but no way are you recovering your 1st rd pick. In all likelyhood, a contender may offer you their 1st (24th overall at best), and you should be happy with that. The guy is walking regardless, so don't plan on a blockbuster trade. Leafs are looking for a #2RD, Maybe Ceci is an option.....

All Sens fans would give Ceci to Toronto for free so that they exit in Rd1.

Too late. Melnyk has done a good job of ensuring that already.

No sympathy requested...but if we're talking disasters....Hawks are much more of one than the Sens....lost 17 of 20, first goal against in 11 straight....

I suppose.......but it’s a disaster created by having years of success (just part of the cycle). We’re same level of disaster minus the success.

although you are right that stone is worth much more than a late first there is also zero chance the sens would get back their own first for him
